Course Description

WINTER SEASON 2027 8-13 y/o |Wednesdays 16:30-18:00 (90min) Light, Space & Imagination As winter gives way to spring, young artists will explore one of art’s most fascinating subjects: light. Inspired by the changing season and Amsterdam’s Light Festival, children will discover how artists use light, shadow, color, and perspective to create depth, movement, and atmosphere. Through drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and mixed-media projects, students will explore architectural perspective, stairways, buildings, and the human figure in 3D space. A favorite part of the season is our popular Light Lab, where children experiment with shadow, transparency, movement, and optical effects. Our Three Pillars: 🎨 Building Confidence Every class begins with a mindful sketchbook warm-up designed to strengthen observation, imagination, and creative confidence. Each child receives an A4 sketchbook to document ideas, practice techniques, and reflect on their artistic growth throughout the season. 🤝 Fostering Empathy Through collaborative projects, group discussions, and positive sharing moments, children learn to appreciate different perspectives and celebrate one another’s creativity. ✨ Exploring Light, Space & Self-Expression Students will learn perspective drawing, architectural space, and the human figure through observation and playful challenges. One of the highlights of the season is drawing one another as live models using costumes, props, and imaginative poses, bringing plenty of laughter along the way. Alongside these technical skills, children continue Art Lab Amsterdam’s Inside-Out drawing practice, using mindfulness and reflection to explore feelings, imagination, and personal expression. At mid-season we pause to celebrate our progress, and parents are invited to join the final class for a special collaborative artwork. Every child receives a creative gift to mark their artistic journey. Taught in Dutch (and English when needed).
